This time of year is known for boosting spirits and encouraging people to be kinder than they normally would--however, the former captain of the English national football team took holiday cheer to a whole new level.
Last week, Rio Ferdinand made an announcement that he and his restaurant will be donating $626,000 worth of toys and gifts to Cash for Kids, the official charity of Manchester radio station Key 103.
"Christmas is a time when families want to get each other presents and there are obviously people that are less fortunate than we are so we want to try and help them and donate £500,000 worth of toys," Ferdinand told the radio station.
"We are totally overwhelmed by Rio’s amazing contribution," charity manager Russell Feingold told Key 103. "This is going to help so many young children. We now need everyone to keep supporting the campaign – the more children we can help, the more lives we can brighten up this Christmas."
The charity's goal is to provide at least 60,000 needy children in the greater Manchester area with a gift on Christmas day--and thanks to Ferdinand's generous donation, it looks like they will have no problem reaching that number.
